Agnihotra is a sacred puja ceremony, also known as Homa, or a healing fire, according to a precise ritual (Yajnya), which has its origins in the science of Ayurveda (the ancient Science of Life from India), which began about 5,000 to 6,000 years ago. It is a dynamic process of purifying the atmosphere, our planet and ourselves, together with all the animals and plant life, by means of a specially prepared fire ritual, that is resonant with the sunrise & sunset biorhythm of the planet, and which is performed precisely at sunrise and sunset, daily.

Agnihotra is the basic healing fire in Homa Therapy. Homa (also known as homam or havan) is a Sanskrit word which refers to any ritual in which making offerings into a consecrated fire is the primary action, the term homa is interchangeable with the term, yagna or yajnya. Homa/Agnihotra was practiced by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and because of its non-sectarian, universal nature it is also practiced by anyone who feels a strong desire to help heal themselves and our planet. Even though it is a ritual which utilizes the element of fire, it is also a form of meditation, with the use of chanting mantras.

The Agnihotra fire is prepared in a small, inverted copper pyramid of specific dimensions, in which organic dry cows’ dung cakes (from happy cows), or pieces thereof are placed in the inverted copper pyramid, on which some ghee (organic clarified, unsalted butter from happy cows) is placed, and then set on fire. Exactly at sunrise and sunset the mantras are uttered, while the rice and more ghee are offered to the fire.

If this incredibly powerful ritual calls to you, the practice is easily learned, including what tools and ingredients you require, including a good clock with seconds shown. You will also require a sunrise and sunset timetable for your area, which is also quite easily obtainable.

The result of this process seems to release potent energies of a subtle and powerful nature, which have a positive healing influence on all life forms, and our oceans, soil and atmosphere. It is said to have a very powerful regenerative effect, reinforcing positive, life-supporting energies, while neutralizing negative, life damaging energies, including harmful radiation, pathogenic bacteria, and much more. Agnihotra harmonizes the vital functioning of prana (life energy), and also helps to purify our drinking water, including the ocean.

I have learned from what I have read and heard, and share herewith the possible benefits of this divine practice, which can do the following;

  1. Neutralization of harmful radiation
  2. Renew and invigorate brain cells.
  3. Purify the blood.
  4. Neutralize pathogenic bacteria and viruses.
  5. Improve the circulatory system.
  6. Improve health more when the ash is ingested.
  7. The soil is improved more with the application of the ash.
  8. Nourish all human life, animal, and plant life, especially that which is in close proximity.
  9. Neutralize pollution.

Anyone who is interested in learning more about this powerful healing practice, or if you wish to become an ‘Agnihotri,’ (one who practices Agnihotra), please see the various internet links below that will provide you with much more information.

 My friend Reiner and his wife Manu lived in India, and who now lives in Austria, has been practicing Agnihotra for a great many years, and who is an authority on this Homa. They are active members/leaders of the movement to help people learn and practice this healing art all over the world. They also helped to create an incredible organic farm, in India, surmounting seemingly impossible odds with the use of Agnihotra, and they used to hold an annual Agnihotra Festival, attended by thousands of people from all over the world, to help heal our planet.

These four links below are excellent for anyone who is interested in taking the practice of Agnihotra further;

I make the ghee that I use in this Homa, from unsalted butter, and the process is very easy. I strongly urge everyone to use butter from organic, life supporting farms, where the cows are well cared for, including their calves. The regular butter in many places is usually from farms that abuse the cows, and I choose not to support such practices.

The entire process is extremely easy to learn, and the ingredients and tools are also easily available in most places. If you are interested in practicing this Homa, and you have any difficulty in learning more about it, please send me a message via the Contact page, providing me with your location, and I shall endeavor to assist you with more information that can help you. I will be able to provide you with the sources of the required tools and ingredients, that may serve you, wherever you are located.

Agnihotra with Ivy Amar, USA.

Agnihotra is a healing fire ritual from the ancient Ayur-Veda which purifies the atmosphere through fire prepared in a copper pyramid tuned to the biorhythm of sunrise and sunset. Utilizing organic substances, precise timings, sound vibration in the form of mantra, Agnihotra restores harmony, calms the mind, and has a powerful effect on balancing and sustaining the natural rhythms and energy cycles of Earth.
